               Solapur which was once upon a time known as Manchester of India, is one of the four districts that from the region of Western Maharashtra (the other three districts are Satara, Kolhapur and Sangli).It is the fourth largest district in Maharashtra in terms of land area (behind Ahmednagar, Pune and Nagpur) and seventh largest in terms of population. It is an important junction on the central railway line. Solapur is a city with an array of small and medium scale industries. It has been a leading center for cotton mills and power looms, though recent times have seen these industries elsewhere. Bedding accessories made in Solapur (chaddars) have earned fame and reputation for their novel designs and durability. The chief deity of the city is Shri Siddeshwar. The “Nandidhwaj” procession on Makar Sankranti and the annual “Gadda Fair” is attended by millions of devotiees.

  • An important  tourist destination is Siddeshwar Temple, the abode of Siddeshwar built in 16th century .It attracts 35 lakhs pilgrims yearly.
  • Akkalkot is a Holy place of Shri.Swami Samarth Maharaj.It is located at adistance of 38 km s. by road This Saint is believed to be the reincarnation of Lord Dattatraya.
  • Pandharpur is a holy place of  Shri. Vitthal and Rukmini .It is also known as the Southern  Kashi of India and Kuldaivat of Maharashtra State . It is located  at distance of 72 kms. by road.
  • Tuljapur is situated 40kms. from Solapur Tulja Bhavani temple is situated on one of the deep slopes on the ranges of the hill and is enclosed  with a fortress and faces the East and consists of special attributes of  Garbhagriha.
  • Gangapur is one of the most Famous Dattatreya Peethas, is associated with Shri Narasimha Sarasvati Swami, an incranation of Lord Dattatreya. The water of the river Bhima and Amaraja especially at  spot of their confluence, are considered extremely holy. it is Situated 110kms. from Solapur.

  • Bijapur built in 1659, is the mausoleum of Md. Adil Shah. Its vast dome is said to be 2nd Largeset Dome ,unsupported by pillars,in the world ,after St.Peter's in the Vatican city of Rome.It is situated in 110 Kms from Solapur.
